Cirque News, AMC Re-Opening, & More–Disney Springs Update
Disney Springs Update
It’s been a few weeks since we really checked out what’s going on at Disney Springs. With it comes big news of the re-opening of AMC Movie Theater, a new opening date for Cirque du Soleil–Drawn to Life, new retail and eateries, plus so much more. It’s Disney News on Parade dedicated to Disney Springs for August 19, 2020.
Marketplace Co-Op
NBA Experience
New retail opportunities have entered the Marketplace Co-Op. The first is NBA merchandise taking over what has been the Twenty Eight & Main men’s clothing.
MaDe by You
The second store is an online store where you can order customized shirts.
World of Disney
Below is the line on a Saturday evening to get into World of Disney.
Jungle Cruise Game
This game is very difficult to get a hold of.
Halloween Merchandise
Lots of new Halloween merchandise has taken over World of Disney.
World of Disney isn’t the only place to find unique Halloween merchandise. A Haunted Mansion guitar by Craig Fraser is available at The Art of Disney. It retails at $13,000.00.
Other
The following is inexplicable. And I happen to like purple.

Coming, Going, Not So Sure
The Edison, Maria & Enzo’s and Enzo’s Hideaway
These three restaurants recently re-opened on August 13th. They occupy a major space in that section of the park, so their re-opening is major.
The final whisperings of this location being added have disappeared.
RainForest Cafe
The other cafe in Disney’s Animal Kingdom as well as the T-Rex Cafe has been opened for some time, but Disney’s Springs’ version of Rain Forest Cafe just reopened.
Landry’s, Inc. has recently laid off approximately 40,000 workers across its casinos, hotels, and restaurants and has furloughed 70% of its nationwide workforce.
Landry’s has about 14 restaurants in this area including Yak & Yeti, Sawgrass Steakhouse and Bubba Gump.
Lovepop
Lovepop greeting cards are getting their own storefront at Disney Springs. You may remember that Lovepop originally operated out of Marketplace Co-Op, and then moved to a kiosk outside of Paddlefish. Now it will have its own brick and mortar location next to Ron Jon.
Gideon’s Bakehouse
Work is proceeding on the new Gideon’s Bakehouse coming to Disney Springs. This place, which has its origins at the East End Market has been awarded as the Best Place in the world to Get a Cookie from the Boston Globe. Note that the signage states that it is coming in 2020.
West Side
Much of the remaining news is all on the nearly blighted West End.
M&M
M&M is robbing red candies to pay yellow candies. In truth, the unique store is ending its stay at Florida Mall at the end of August before moving to Disney Springs later in the year. For those who love the M&Ms, they are offering up to 60% discounts.
Ample Hills
Below are further signs that Ample Hills will definitely not be returning.
Beatrix
According to Theme Park Tourist as of right now the entire project is “on hold” according to an official statement by the company with “a restart date yet [to be] determined”. It is unknown if this project is simply delayed or will eventually be cancelled.
AMC Movie Theaters
Auditoriums are at 30% capacity or less to allow for social distancing. Masks are required before, during and after the movie unless you are enjoying food and drinks. Tickets sold for the opening day will be $.15 cents and most shows are sold out for movies that range from Black Panther and Beauty & the Beast to Goonies & Back to the Future.
Cirque du Soleil: Drawn to Life
It appears that the calendar for the site has moved back it’s first opening date for booking tickets to November 17th. That calendar has shown a five day work week from Tuesday through Saturday with the show closed on Sunday and Monday, as it was in the past. Tickets are priced between $79 to $ for adults. They have described the show as follows:
“Drawn to Life invites you into an astounding world where the art of Walt Disney Animation is experienced like never before. Gather your whole family for an unforgettable leap into this amazing new show—a live acrobatic journey where our stage is transformed into a giant animation table. The art of classic Disney animation is reinterpreted through innovative design, acrobatic performances, dazzling choreography, eclectic costuming, all-new Disney animation and an original score inspired by timeless Disney music. The show is absolutely alive with all the high-flying, mind-blowing exuberance that Cirque du Soleil is famous for.”
According to Yahoo Finance:
“Lenders to Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group won control of the company in a court-supervised restructuring, people with knowledge of the matter said. Lenders are planning to inject $375 million of new capital into the Montreal-based company to restart its shows.
“The lenders have also agreed to keep Cirque’s international headquarters in Montreal for at least five years. They committed to setting up a $15 million fund to pay laid-off employees and another $5 million for contractors, according to the bid document.”
