Frozen Construction at Epcot's Norway and More

Frozen Construction at Epcot's Norway and More

Though warmer temperatures are underway in Florida, Walt Disney World is becoming Frozen over as it heads toward summer. It’s not the first time as Disney’s Hollywood Studios held two successive Frozen Summers. But now things are looking a little different this year. Let’s take a look:

Here’s what Imagineers designed for a new meet ‘n’ greet experience at Norway in Epcot:

Let’s look at the construction as it’s underway. This first photo allows you to see the addition as it borders Mexico nearby.

The far left of the following photo appears to be where guests will enter the meet ‘n’ greet area.

The main building is well underway with its log design. Those logs are probably carved out of cement coating, similar to what you see in the new Fantasyland. Take a look at the mountain structure above and behind:

Taking a look at the mountain grid work, one can see on the left side the mesh layer that will cover the grid. This is essentially how Canada’s mountain is structured. It’s more of a facade. That differs from the Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride which is a completed mountain structure.

Moving toward the right we see the next building over.

Looking to the far right we see existing buildings. The brown building on the far right is the bakery area. After that, we move toward what has been the restroom areas.

There seems to be an archway on the right that will take people to the restroom areas. But it doesn’t seem to be that the meet ‘n’ greet areas will exit into existing gift shops. Still, lots of construction going on with many workers.

The facade of the new Norway attraction is covered still, but you can find Anna and Elsa in topiary form in the front of the attraction on the opposite end of where the construction is.

So, there’s lots of Frozen offering underway for Epcot when it opens this summer. Still, there are other offerings, and there are more underway. For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration is still very popular and is a great place to visit when the heat turns on.

The good news is that a Frozen Summer Celebration at Disney’s Hollywood Studios does not appear to be coming back this year. At least it hasn’t been announced. It really has played out its time at the Studios. And Star Wars fever seems to focus the park in a different direction.

Meanwhile, move over Ice Gator as Blizzard Beach has announced that Olaf will be hosting the Frozen Games this summer at the water park. This is reminiscent of the Teen Beach 2 Beach Party that hit Typhoon Lagoon. The offering feels like a leftover.

What seems more exciting is Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire that will come to the Cinderella Castle stage. A new castle show is so needed, and it’s great to hear that it’s not the same princess characters being paraded around. Welcomed is more of the stars of Princess and the Frog as well as Tangled. Frozen will also be there as well. I’m not as excited about that. We see them in the parade and in a meet ‘n’ greet at Fantasyland. It seems we just took down her holiday lights. Isn’t there someone else to star in the show?

Clearly Frozen has a presence at Walt Disney World, and it’s only getting icier moving forward. What do you think? Which aspects are you looking forward to? One thing for sure, lots of offerings are heading to Walt Disney World this year, and when it comes to Frozen, Disney has no plan to “let it go”.
