Review: “Awesome Planet”

Review: “Awesome Planet”

Always glad to have a reason to visit The Land pavilion, perhaps one of my favorite places in all of Future World, and soon to be World Nature.

Once upon a time there were three attractions in this building: Listen to the Land–later to be known as Living With the Land, Kitchen Kabaret–followed by Food Rocks; and the film, Symbosis–followed by Circle of Life. When Soarin’ came in, the theater dedicated to Food Rocks went away. When Circle of Life left the building, that brought it down to only two attractions. It’s great to have a new offering in what is the largest pavilion in all of Epcot.

Now the theater that once housed Symbiosis and Circle of Life offers us Awesome Planet.

We step into the familiar lobby with its plush rug walls. Note that the monitors that once were there are now gone.

Awesome Planet is an on-screen exploration of earth, showcasing the spectacular beauty, diversity and dynamic story of this planet. Spectacular nature photography, immersive in-theater effects, and space sequences are created by none other than Industrial Light & Magic (which provided the cinematic foundation for the Star Wars franchise).

The film showcases the Earth’s beauty and diversity in a 10-minute film featuring spectacular imagery, in-theater effects and an original musical score from Academy Award-winning® composer Steven Price.

I don’t offer the video of the film. It’s available on YouTube, though guests are specifically asked not to video tape when they are in the theater. Therefore, those that video the show, are ignoring Disney’s requests. Because they are multi-dimensional experiences, I do videos of attractions like The Jungle Cruise or Epcot Forever, but I feel a video of a film itself leaves no reason to really see the film. I recommend you wait to see the film in the theater. Still, I have a review.
